The flag of Brazil: an infographic

29 Jul 2016

The Brazilian flag has quite a distinct design. It is a very easy one to remember and an interesting one to draw with the kids.

The flag of Brazil

I think it was the first flag my daughter remembered and was able to identify (after she visited the country). It is a little different from all of the stripy flags. But do you know its meaning and its history?

Here is a little infographic to learn more.

The history and meaning of the Brazilian flag

Did you know that?
- One single star stands above the motto as it represents the only state (Pará) that straddles the Equator.
-  The motto: Order and Progress is inspired by Auguste Comte's motto of positivism: "L'amour pour principe et l'ordre pour base; le progrès pour but" ("Love as a principle and order as the basis; progress as the goal").

Here are some fun things you can do with the Brazilian flag with your kids:
- a flag sandwich
- Duck tape flags
- Collage flag
- Brazilian flag colouring page
